Google engineer invents smart mirror for his bathroom that tells it all…well almost!

Mirror mirror on the bathroom wall, What’s the temperature, time and all? Seems a bit different from the original right? That’s because this line is meant for a different mirror, one that doesn’t belong to a fictional fairytale; this one is a modern day magic mirror that’s every bit a part of our reality thanks to google engineer Max Braun. He is an engineer with Google so that explains when he couldn’t find a smart mirror for himself he actually built one! Using supplies you can find easily online or in stores, Braun turned his boring bathroom mirror into a smart one capable of delivering the news and weather. Apparently he is also working with traffic updates and headlines. He obviously runs the mirror on Google’s android and Amazon’s Fire TV stick to run the user interface. Braun uses forecast API for weather updates and news headlines come from this associated press RSS feed.

All this is great but what about practicality and utility on a daily basis? I think something like this can prove to be a great device for people who can’t kickstart their day till they’ve updated themselves with a minute or two of browsing on their phones. Let’s face it that does waste a lot more than just 5 mins of our precious time. If something like this mirror becomes a common device a lot of people will save their morning energy and avoid using smartphones. A lot of them will also stop taking their smartphones to the toilet/bathrooms and save them from moisture, getting wet or slipping inside the toilet. That’s a major save believe me! This prototype is still a work in progress and work is on with remaining ideas. Let us know what you think of it in the comments section below.
